Let’s Talk: Our Makeup Routine + Favorite Products

After sharing Lauren Conrad’s makeup bag with you on Monday, it got me thinking about our own beauty routines. I always love learning how other people do things and when it comes to makeup, I’m particularly fascinated. I think it’s something you can always discover more about – a new tip, trick or product. Today, I’m sharing my favorite items right now and would love if you left a comment and told me your one makeup must-have (so I can go and try it).

But first, let’s talk about our own makeup routines – I want to know yours!

Let’s talk about our makeup routines…

What is your makeup style, do you prefer natural or more made-up and glamorous? Do you wear makeup every day? How long does it take you to apply makeup? Is there anything you wish you could do better?

To answer those questions myself, I prefer a natural look with a little glam – I love lashings of mascara and always wear a tinted moisturizer, bronzer, hint of blush and pretty gloss. You’ll find me in makeup most days and it usually takes around 20 minutes from start to finish. I’d like to really master the eyes, from shadow layering to liner – I’m ok, but think I could do a lot more if I knew how! Leave a comment or vote below, I’d love to know…

  1. OMG I’m so jealous of the women that can do their makeup in 10 minutes or less!

  2. I’m confused about the order you apply makeup. For example, make up primer goes on first, then your foundation, then after that what’s next? Is it powder, illuminator, then mattifier last? Or are you not using a setting powder and just the mattifier? And where are you putting bronzer if your also using blush and an illuminator? Usually the bronzer goes on the cheekbones, nose bridge, temples…the same place the illuminator goes. Wouldn’t one cover the other up? It seems that make up has gone from just foundation, powder, and blush, to adding all these other new things, and I don’t understand what goes where and when. Please make a post about this some time please!

  3. Your makeup always looks flawless Lauren! I’m tempted by the MAC eyeshadows – heard so many good reviews!

  4. I’m more of a drugstore makeup girl. I recently found a pretty decent dupe for Benefit They’re Real Mascara (which is my absolute favorite but is $23!). I had read that Physicians Formula made great mascara and I bought the Organic Wear Fake Out mascara by them in the pink tube. It is phenomenal. The closest thing to a dupe for They’re Real that I’ve found.

  5. Love this post! My routine is similar to yours– I keep it fairly simple– light base, a little color on the cheeks. I’ll keep my eyes fairly neutral, but somedays, like today, I like to go for a smoky eye or something a little more glam. I’ve always been into makeup since I was younger and I now work for a cosmetics brand so I pretty much have to love it :P

Current favorites are Bronzer/Blush duo from ELF, Mineralize Skinfinish from MAC and Urban Decay’s Naked Basics palette.

  6. I do my makeup in about 15 minutes or less! I have LOTS of freckles so I use concealer under my eyes and on my nose and I blend in a little of maskCARA’s foundation on the rest of my face! Then, I swipe on Clinique eyeshadow in Daybreak and Benefit’s They’re Real Mascara and I’m good to go!

  7. I’m actually the worst at foundation and blush. Luckily, I have nice skin so I don’t usually wear these things. However, on special occasions when I want to step-up my look, I do a whole face. That is when I realize that I always apply foundation too heavily and I really don’t know what to do with blush! I feel that I’m best at eye make-up because I wear it every day and like to play around with it.

  8. Mallory says:

Catching up after a busy week! My daily makeup routine is minimal and takes about 5 minutes. I have super oily skin so Paula’s Choice Shine Stopper primer is amazing and absolutely necessary. Any kind of covergirl concealer, Merle Norman eye liner, Diorshow overcurl mascara (splurge but totally worth it for how it transforms my barely there lashes), and a swipe of either Tarte or Nars blush. I only use a powder foundation (MN), illuminator (Nars) and eyeshadow (MN) on special occasions. Generally for lips, I stick with Burt’s Bees or, when I want a little color, I like the Clinique Chubby sticks.
