The perfect start to a wonderful evening… when your guests arrive, embrace them with cute warm apple cider in real apple cups. The comforting scent of cinnamon and cloves will instantly welcome friends and family – and you’ll be named hostess of the year, because it doesn’t get much better than drinking warm apple cider straight from a shiny red apple. I hope you all enjoy a beautiful Christmas Eve today with your loved ones… and Merry Christmas for tomorrow!
What you’ll need…
- Apples (one for each guests, preferably large size)
- Apple Cider (you can purchase this or make your own)
- Lemon Juice (to prevent apples browning)
- Cinnamon Sticks (one per guest)
- Star Anise (one per guest)
- Sharp knife
- Small spoon or melon baller (to scoop inside apples)
What you’ll do…
Create each apple cup one by one. First, use a sharp knife to cut a small amount off the top of the apple. Then cut the outline of a circle inside the apple, this will mark the ‘cup’ area you’ll have for the cider. When cutting, be careful not to pierce through the external apple skin (we don’t want any leaks!).
Now, take a small spoon and begin to scoop out the inside of the apple (again, be careful not to dig too deep and cut through the bottom).
Once you have finished, squeeze some lemon juice into a bowl and brush this onto the inside and top of the apple – it will help prevent browning. You’re now finished carving your first apple and can repeat the process on the rest.
After preparing each apple cup, simply pour in the cider. You can choose to warm your cider in a saucepan first, or serve chilled if preferred.
To finish, garnish with a cinnamon stick, sprinkle of cloves and star anise. Serve and enjoy a wonderful Christmas!
