Friday Faves: 6 Best Spring Lipstick Colors with AMAZING Reviews

One of the easiest and cheapest ways to update your style each season is makeup! I wanted to share some of the best spring lipstick colors with you, a swipe of one of these beauties will instantly elevate any outfit.

Whether you have a date night to dress up for, fun girls brunch or simply want to add a pretty touch to a classic tee and jeans combo, lipstick is your answer! Here are the best of the best spring lipsticks – oh and it’s not just me who thinks so, they each have incredible reviews.

best spring lipstick colors estee lauder pure color and ysl lipstick review

I am wearing Estee Lauder Pure Color Lipstick in Impassioned. I found this last year on a cruise holiday for my birthday and bought it as a little ‘gift to self’. It’s one of my favorite lipsticks, the color is rich and has a little shine to it (it’s not sparkly, it’s luminous) and it seems to have a lip stain in it, as even after I’ve eaten and the original coat has worn off, the color is stained on my lips. This is one of my lipstick prerequisites, as I hate having to reapply often. I highly recommend this range!

When my sister was looking for a lipstick for her wedding, I took her to try this at the beauty counter – she loved it and bought a rich red shade from the Estee Lauder Pure Color Matte Lipstick range, the color is called ‘Decisive Poppy’.

Friday Faves – My Skincare Must Haves

I believe beautiful style starts with getting the basics right and glowing skin is paramount. One of my favorite beauty treatments is a weekly face mask and every second night doing a scrub. It’s perfect to give your skin an instant pick-me-up!

When it comes to products, over the years I’ve tried some duds, they promise the world and deliver… well, not much at all. I hate spending my hard-earned money on products that just don’t work and I’m sure you do too! So today, I wanted to share with you the best face masks and scrubs that really do make a difference. I found them through looking at Amazon’s best sellers, so I’m not alone in being obsessed with them…

best face masks

The Best Face Masks:  Algenist Algae Brightening Mask    |   Aztec Secret Clay Mask   |   Glam Glow Supermud Clearing Treatment

I’ve mentioned it before, but my absolute favorite is this Algae Brightening Mask. I work quite long hours and sometimes don’t get enough sleep, so it can really add up and make you feel anything but fabulous. If I want to brighten, smooth and get rid of blemishes, my go-to is this algae mask. You only need to put it on for ten minutes, but some nights I decide to sleep in it (haha yes –  at times I need a real pick-me-up!) and it truly works wonders. If you want to see a real difference, really fast, I can’t recommend it enough.

The other one I’m obsessed with (and has almost 2,500 five-star reviews) is Aztec Secret clay mask. I don’t even know where to begin – it’s a deep pore cleansing treatment and has been dubbed “the world’s most powerful facial.  This clay mask does incredible things to fix pimples and black heads, plus your skin feels tight (in a the best kind of way)… oh and it’s less than $10. Seriously amazing! I wore this every day in the lead up to my wedding (and so did my bridesmaids).

The last one is the Glam Glow Supermud Clearing Treatment Mask. This formula was clinically developed to help fix acne, blackheads, uneven skin tone, razor bumps and in-grown hair. The mud draws out dirt and congestion, while the six-acid blend brightens and softens skin. It also has Activated-X Charcoal, which leaves skin smooth and healthy-looking.

The-Best-Skin-Exfoliators

The Best Skin Exfoliators:
1.  Algenist Multi-Perfecting Detoxifying Exfoliator
2.  Murad Pore Reform Skin Smoothing Polish
3.  Kate Somerville ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment (a cult beauty product known in Hollywood as the two-minute facial, it also repeatedly wins ‘beat beauty product’ awards)
4.  Caudalie Deep Cleansing Exfoliator

Do you use a face mask or exfoliator scrub as part of your beauty routine? Let me know if you have a favorite (I love discovering new beauty products!).

Friday Faves – My Bridal Skincare Routine

With our wedding just over TWO weeks away (Sunday the 5th of March is coming up so quickly!), I’m giving my skin lots of love and extra care.  I always try to use the most natural products I can, but am really fussy because they have to be effective and really pack punch.

To say I’m obsessed with the Jurlique is an understatement! I’ve used this Clarifying Deep Cleanser for years, it truly keeps my skin fresh and blemish-free. I also recently added the Rosewater Balancing Mist, Herbal Recovery Advanced Serum and Herbal Recovery Night Cream to my routine. They smell divine! You know that gorgeous scent luxe products at day spa’s have? Every night I’m like ahh… it just makes your soul feel good.

Of course even more than that, I’ve noticed my skin really looks alive and has a pretty glow, it’s also much more balanced (areas where I was dry or oily have evened out). With all the wedding prep and late nights organising things, my skin started to look dull and tired… so I knew I had to up my game.

I really wanted to start sharing the skincare routine I’ve found effective and if your skin’s in need of a little TLC, I’d definitely recommend the Jurlique range. You can check out their best sellers here. I always like seeing the products other people love!

Have you tried his range before? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Friday Faves – 8 Blonde Balayage Hairstyles Every Girl Needs To Try

Lately I’ve been craving something new with my hair and have been looking at blonde balayage hair color ideas, particularly with ash blonde tones. Cool crystal blonde is one of the biggest hair color trends for 2017, I think it’s just so fresh, bright and gorgeous!  Of course, Pinterest is the ultimate source of inspiration and I have collected some beautiful hair colors and cuts on my Hair Envy Pinterest board (come join me and follow along for all my fab hair finds). I wanted to share some I’m considering with you and would love to hear your feedback.

I love col ash blonde tones, but am also drawn to golden highlights… decisions, decisions! Which do you prefer?

I’m also into really blunt cuts at the moment, I think they’re polished and so stylish. Plus, a blunt cut without layers also makes your hair appear thicker and more full – and who doesn’t want that!

Friday Faves – How Long Can You Keep Makeup and How To Extend It’s Life

When I was younger, I would buy and use makeup without ever giving thought to the expiration date or how long you can keep makeup… some products I would have for years because I used them so infrequently. It never occurred to me that just like food, makeup does have an expiry date and for your own health and the effectiveness of the product, you really should adhere to it. I was always the worst with mascara! But when you think about it, your eyes and sight are everything, you don’t want to be messing around with them. So, the big question is… how long can you keep makeup? I’m answering this for you today.

I’ve done a bit of research and wanted to what I found with you. Importantly, I’ll also share my tips on how to make your makeup last longer so you get every cent worth (after all, our fave products usually aren’t cheap) and the one thing every woman will need to know at some stage… how to fix a broken powder compact!

I’d love to know, do you think about expiry dates or how old your makeup is before using it? Do you have any tips for how to make your makeup last longer or how to fix makeup breakages? Please leave a comment and share, let’s all help each other out!

How Long Can You Keep Makeup beauty tips chanel oval engagement ring beauty blogger

One of my favorite lip glosses, Chanel Rouge Allure Gloss in #18 Seduction.

MASCARA:

Expiration: Three months from opening

One of the biggest annoyances for longevity is mascara drying out! My biggest and best tip is all in your application… do you ever pump the wand in and out of the tube? I used to… and you definitely should stop! This action is so unnecessary, it pushes air into the tube, really dries the product out and therefore significantly shortens your mascara’s lifespan. The alternative? Just gently move the wand around inside the tube before you pull it out, this will pick-up the product you need on the wand and won’t push excessive air inside.

Tip: If your mascara has dried out, you can salvage it by putting a few drops of baby oil in the tube.

EYELINER:
Expiration: Liquid Liners are three months, Pencil Liners are up to two years

For the best application and to avoid that frustrating moment when you accidentally snap off the tip of the pencil, warm the pencil in your hands before applying. Just take the pencil between your flat palms (palms face inwards with the product vertically held between them) and move your hands back and forth, the pencil will spin as you do this. The friction and movement will cause the product to warm up a little. This allows for a much smoother and more even application.

For liquid liner pots that have dried out, once again it’s all about adding a little heat! Just place these in the microwave for 5 – 10 seconds, or hold a hair dryer over them (with the lid closed so the air doesn’t dry it out further).

FOUNDATION:

Expiration: Oil-based, one and a half years. Water-based, one year.

It’s important to understand the composition of the foundation you use, is it oil-free? Water-based foundations tend to dry out more quickly. Good foundations aren’t cheap, so we want to get the most out of them! The best way to prolong it’s life span is to add a few drops of alcohol-free toner and shake / mix it with the product thoroughly.

LIPSTICK:

Expiration: One year

A simple trick to extending the life of your favorite lipsticks is to simply keep them in the fridge. It’s been proven that warm or humid climates can make the color pigments degrade quicker.

What happens if you drop your fave shade and it breaks? Ahh the horror. We’ve all been there, watching our most loved lipstick smash before our eyes, almost as if in slow motion and we’re powerless to stop it. But this doesn’t mean it’s all over… simply get a little pot and scoop the remaining product in, you can then apply it with a q-tip or lip brush.

BLUSH AND BRONZER:

Expiration: Up to two years

Just like the lipstick above, I think we’ve all squealed in devastation as our blush or bronzer has hit the tiles. The brilliant news is, believe it or not, your compact can be totally salvaged! Here’s how to fix a broken powder compact… to start the recovery operation, place the powder pieces back into the compact and break down any larger bits that survived, so it is all a smaller finer consistency. Then spray the powerdy pieces with rubbing alcohol and cover this with a tissue. Take a spoon and use the back-side to press down firmly on the powder in your compact, push down evenly to smooth the powder back into place and ensure it’s all positioned in tight. Place this on a counter top and allow it to dry. Then voila! Your powder compact will be back to it’s former glory.

NAIL POLISH:

Expiration: Two years

I hate it when I go to use my favorite nail polish color and find it’s all clumped or dried inside the bottle! The best way I’ve found to revive dried out varnish is to add a couple drops of nail lacquer thinner (this can be purchased from great discount places like Sally Beauty), then thoroughly shake to mix it all together.

Friday Faves: Review – The Best Hair Brushes Under $10

We talk a lot of fashion around here, but you know what? No outfit is complete without a beautiful ‘do. After the handle on my last brush broke off mid-blow dry, I vowed from that day forth to always purchase quality brushes. SO my search for the best hair brushes under $10 began… I visited the “latest” and “greatest” brushes everywhere from Sephora to Nordstrom… however, the thing is, I don’t really want to spend $50 plus on a brush. Right or wrong, I’d rather buy a cute top or a new lipstick instead.

Following many long weeks of hunting down honest reviews online, I realized I wanted to replace my entire set of brushes and add a couple more to my arsenal. I’ve been using these for a while now and I looove them – so of course, it’s time for me to share them with you! Here are the hair brushes you need for a perfect blow dry…

The Best Hair Brushes Under $10 – Number One:

I’d never used a proper comb or brush after washing my hair (I know you’re supposed to) and when I found The Wet Brush I wanted to try it. Gals, it is honestly the BEST! I can’t even think about brushing my wet hair with anything else, it makes a huge huge HUGE difference. I also use it when I curl my hair as it’s gentle and doesn’t pull my curl style out, plus before my hair got long and I use to use clip-in extensions, it was great for gently brushing them. Can you believe it’s only $8.99? You can find The Wet Brush here.

Friday Faves – The Best Beach Fragrances

Whether you’re escaping winter over the holidays for warm and sunny tropical beaches, or dreaming that you were, every girl needs a gorgeous beach fragrance that evokes all the good feels of summer. With just a spray, you’re instantly transported to a place of utter bliss… the sand between your toes, salty sea air, golden warm summer skin, soft coconut scent of sunscreen and the faint hint of driftwood in air.

Ever since spraying Beach Walk from the Replica collection by Maison Margiela during a trip to Nordstrom (and then compulsively visiting each day for two weeks to continue ‘sampling’ the scent), I was hooked. If you were ever to ‘blind’ buy a scent, I would have no hesitation in say yes, do it! This one is absolutely gorgeous.

I’ve since been researching and testing other beach inspired perfumes and salty fragrances. I wanted to find the perfect mix of salty, coconut, sandy warmth that instantly transports you to all those amazing days spent at the beach. I think scent is such a powerful tool for evoking memories and moments, so finding the most beautiful beach perfume has been a mission of mine. I wasn’t looking for scents that tried to be like the beach, I wanted to find scents that are the beach.

After much research, sampling trips and stalking online fragrance forums, here are the very best beach fragrances, with natural (and non-chemical) elements to give you the most authentic, natural and powerful beach experience from wherever you may be! For more details, just click the photo of the perfume below, or visit the links…

I would really LOVE to know if you have any beach perfume recommendations? Is there a salty, coconut, sandy, ocean air scent that you love? Please share in the comments below, I will definitely check it out.

The Best Beach Fragrances

The Best Beach Fragrances:
1.     Beach Walk Eau de Toilette from the Replica collection by Maison Margiela
2.     Beach by Bobbi Brown Eau de Parfum
3.  Amongst the Waves Eau de Parfum from Olivine Atelier (the reviews on this boutique Etsy store are incredible, I love supporting small businesses). For International friends, the concentrated perfume oil version can be shipped worldwide, yay! As it’s pure fragrance, it will last forever – a little goes a long way.
