Beauty 101: Lauren Conrad Makeup Favorites…
Beauty 101: Lauren Conrad Makeup Favorites…
After Kim Kardashian sparked quite a controversy over her new platinum ‘do in Paris last week, it got me thinking about all the celebrity hair cuts that have taken place in the last month. There has been a lot! It seems everyone wants a fresh new look for 2015. Some are gorgeous, whilst others I definitely won’t be talking to my hairdresser about anytime soon.
While I was looking at the different celebrity hair cuts, I noticed one thing in common – so many have chosen to rock a ‘lob’ (that’s a long bob). Generally, I think it looks stunning – and obviously Margot Robbie can do no wrong. I’m not sure about Nicole Richie’s new pink pixie, I loved her with a simple blonde lob.
I’m sharing a few of the biggest celebrity hair cut transformations below, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Which new ‘do is your top pick and which makeover can’t you stand?
VOTE FOR BEST & WORST CELEBRITY HAIR CUT:
I always adore seeing the red carpet arrivals and the Oscars on Sunday provided the sparkle and glamour we’ve all come to expect. Who was your ‘Oscars 2015 best dressed’ of the night? I’d love to hear your thoughts, vote below and leave a comment!
I am excited to introduce a new feature here on Style Elixir, class is in for Style School! We all have little fashion questions and wardrobe dilemma’s, but sometimes it’s tricky to find the answers you need. However, that’s why I’m here! We’re kicking of the series with Google’s most asked fashion question in 2014, ‘How to wear a scarf’.
I’m such a big scarf person and must admit, my collection is a little out of control… so I’ve well and truly discovered how to wear a scarf. To help demonstrate, the video below is seriously amazing – it shows you 16 different ways to tie a scarf. I guarantee you’ll find something new and watching it will probably be the best three minutes you’ll spend all day.
For extra inspiration, you’ll find celeb-favorite scarf lovers here and of course, a shopping guide for the hottest scarves to add to your own collection. If you have a fashion question you’d like answered, just send me an email ([email protected]) with the subject line ‘Style School’.
I absolutely adore this month, week after week there are oh-so-glamorous awards shows and last night was the Golden Globes. Oh the dresses! The hair! The jewels… ahhmazing.
One thing I find really interesting is the fashion trends that emerge and this year, there was a lot of silver embellished sparkle, strapless yellow gowns and a strong white contingent too. Before we get into my best and worst dressed (and your chance to vote!), I want to make a special mention of some favorites… Julia Goldani Telles was incredibly beautiful in her cobalt Carmen Marc Valvo gown. Emma Stone was absolutely stunning in her Lanvin pantsuit and Amal Clooney was the epitome of style and sophistication in Dior Haute Couture. Amal’s white opera gloves elevated the Golden Globes to a whole other level.
Without further a-do, here is my ultimate red carpet round-up – be sure to vote below and leave a comment, I can’t wait to see the poll results and hear your thoughts! Tell me, who is your best and worst dressed pick of the night?
White Delight: Salma Hayek | Emily Blunt | Julia Louis-Dreyfus | Kate Hudson
Silver Sparkle: Julianne Moore | Dakota Johnson | Diane Kruger | Reese Witherspoon
Walking on Sunshine: Jenna Dewan Tatum | Naomi Watts | Leslie Mann
Julia Goldani Telles in Carmen Marc Valvo. My favorite, what a stunning dress!
Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad
Emma Stone in Lanvin
Amal Clooney in Dior Haute Couture
Anna Kendrick in Monique Lhuillier
Julianne Moore in Givenchy Couture
Salma Hayek in Alexander McQueen
Lupita Nyong’o in Giambattista Valli Couture
Kate Beckinsale in Elie Saab
Chrissy Teigen in Zuhair Murad
Kerry Washington. Normally Kerry has incredible red carpet style, I’m not sure what happened here – it’s all too much! I am also confused by these red and black heels, why Kerry, why?
Rosamund Pike in Vera Wang. This dress looks odd and the top is very ill-fitting.
Keira Knightley in Chanel. I’m just not into this look, I know Keira is pregnant but her dress is too ‘nightie’ and lacks requisite red carpet glamour.
Zosia Marmet in Andrew Gn
Lena Dunham in Zac Posen. While I love the vibrant red color, this dress is ill-fitting and I feel a pair of gorgeous earrings or cute clutch would have added a more polished touch.
As you may have heard, Blake Lively just recently gave birth to her baby with husband Ryan Reynolds. I just found out today it’s a little girl… and you can only imagine how gorgeous she will be (hello, genetic lottery!). Aside from Blake’s impeccable style (she never seems to put a Louboutin-clad foot wrong!) and sweet girl-next-door persona, it’s her ethereal beauty that often always captures my attention.
I’ve done a little digging and discovered her favorite beauty products and all the Blake Lively hair secrets you need to know…
Blake travels a lot and between all the flights and humidity in different locations, she’s explained her hair can get kind of frizzy and big. So for smooth, shiny hair she swears by regularly using a nourishing hair mask. Her go-to? Blake revealed it’s Kerastase Reflection Chroma Captive Hair Masque. She doesn’t rinse it completely from her hair and then once her hair is almost dry, she puts it up into a high ballerina bun.
Before shampooing, she also adds extra virgin coconut oil to the ends. Blake explained that her mom taught her when you shampoo you’re only trying to remove oil from the roots, not the ends. However, when you shampoo the ends you’re damaging them and it’s really drying. To prevent this, before showering she recommends applying coconut oil on the ends.
Want to know her go-to look for perfect evening hair? Blake said it’s actually a daytime hair look that’s super versatile. Simply slick back your hair in a tight ponytail, then take random chunks, braiding and twisting them.
Finally, it’s not hair related, but I think every gal needs a signature scent! I’m always intrigued to know what a woman identifies as her go-to fragrance and for Blake, it’s all about Gucci Première perfume – she said she wears it everywhere (even just at home in her pajamas).
I’d love to know, have you used any of Blake’s favorite beauty products? Are you keen to try some of her tips? I will definitely be doing this coconut oil before shampooing (such a good idea) and trying that Kerastase Reflection Hair Masque and this Skin Perfection Gel looks fantastic!
I hope you all enjoyed a beautiful weekend! Today I wanted to share with you something I’ve been lusting after lately… the perfect red nail polish. I’m often inspired by celebrity fashion and beauty, after all they have access to the latest and greatest products! One of my favorites is Olivia Palermo style… the girl can do no wrong. Olivia is renowned for making red nail polish her signature and she’s rarely seen without it.
I’ve been hunting down the perfect shade of red for longer than I’d like to admit and after finally tracking down which nail polishes Olivia Palermo wears, I found it! Her favorite shade is Essie Lollipop – and let me be the first to excitedly say, it’s ahhhmazing (I was shopping on the weekend and had 3 people ask what shade I was wearing).
The thing I love about reds is they’re universal and can be worn all year round. Summer or winter, breakfast or black tie, you’ll always look perfectly polished in this chic hue. If you’d love a little red in your life, these are the nail polishes Olivia Palermo wears…
For those of you who have been with me for a while now, you’ll know I adore discovering celebrity makeup routines and beauty tricks! When it comes to this, there are few stars more photographed than the Kardashian’s and being on their beauty A-game is a daily requisite. Whether you love them or loathe them, women the world over look to the trio for makeup inspiration and the K-sisters are always on-point with the latest trends.
Today, I’m delving inside Kourtney Kardashian’s makeup favorites and beauty bag to share the must-have products she can’t live without…

I love makeup and beauty as much as the next girl, so watching YouTube tutorials and Google-ing celebrity makeup how-to’s is a favorite pass time. Since discovering her reality show with husband Eric Decker, I’ve become enamored with the beautiful Jessie James Decker‘s makeup – a perfect mix of glamor, without appearing over done.
I was delighted to discover Jessie occasionally does makeup tutorials, so I wanted to share her latest with you – and of course, the products she uses to get this look! The great news is, they aren’t high-end and unaffordable… her makeup bag includes everything from L’Oreal to Urban Decay, with easy to shop beauty items from Target and Sephora. I hope you enjoy watching it as much as I did – isn’t she so sweet and down to earth?!
Happy Friday and welcome to the Fab Favorites Link Up! This week I’m delighted to share with you the very exciting celebrity charity fashion auction event we have on at Bloggers Closet!
