My Advice For Shopping Black Friday Sales

Gals, I’m so excited – it’s only two sleeps until the Black Friday Sales! I’ve been making my shopping shortlist for weeks now… and let me tell you, it isn’t so short anymore! There are so many cute things to shop for and today, I’m delighted to be collaborating with Sears to share some of my favorite picks and tips for what to shop on Black Friday.

13 My Advice For Shopping Black Friday Sales Sears Style:  Tuxedo Jacket   |   Black Ruffle Blouse   |   Burgundy Skinny Jeans

As many of you know, I like to keep my style quite classic and polished, but I always look for pieces with unique details. I feel in sales sometimes you can get swept up in all the excitement of big discounts and end up buying a ton of things that you never wear. When I was in my teens (umm yes, that was almost ten years ago – eeek!), I used to fall victim to buying something because it was “such a great deal!”, have you ever done that?! But I’m pleased to say, since then I have become a discerning shopper. I know what suits my body type, what colors are flattering for me and what styles will endure more than one season.

My best fashion advice for shopping the Black Friday sales is to choose pieces that are classic and timeless. Buy quality over quantity and shop for what your wardrobe actually needs (believe it or not, you don’t need that 10th black handbag).

I had a wonderful time browsing Sears recently and bought this tuxedo jacket, these coated skinny jeans and this ruffle blouse… all for under $80! Each item is versatile in its own right and so easy to mix and match with other pieces in my closet, but I thought they also worked so well together in this outfit. I absolutely love it!

I have to tell you, it had been a while since I’d bought something from Sears and when the parcel arrived, I couldn’t have been more thrilled! I was truly impressed with the quality, the cut and the fabric… as were my mom and sister (they’ve already put in multiple requests to borrow the jacket and jeans).

91 My Advice For Shopping Black Friday Sales Sears Style:  Tuxedo Jacket   |   Black Ruffle Blouse   |   Burgundy Skinny Jeans

This jacket is fully lined and would honestly have to be one of the best fitting jackets I’ve owned in a long time. I adore everything about it, it feels better than some jackets I own that are a couple hundred dollars… and this one was under $30! Oh and don’t even get me started on these jeans, I’m all about anything oxblood right now, isn’t it such a perfect color for winter?

I’ve got to say, my experience shopping with Sears was refreshing. It showed me that I actually didn’t have to spend a lot of money for great quality (I’ve even been back on their site since then to order more things… the Metaphor collection is one of my favorites, the pieces are on-trend, but timeless and very well made).

So when you hit the sales on Black Friday, go in with your fashion wish list and look for well-tailored pieces that are great quality. Stick to the colors and cuts that you know suit best and avoid the highly seasonal trend pieces, be sure to hunt down chic items with a classic style! Happy shopping!

Meet Our Head Stylist…

Say “bonjour!” to this week’s Head Stylist, Rosalyn from My Fancy Pants. How fab are her boyfriend jeans paired with this striped top? This is such a perfect example of how to do layered outfits…

rosaa zpsde8ec4bc Style Sessions Fashion Link Up: Color Block Top and a Black Leather Skirt

STYLE Q&A WITH ROSALYN:

How would you describe your style? I would describe my style as bright colors, bold patterns and often sequins. I love vintage as well as current styles. I need to add more basics my closet. My eye always goes for the bright colors and so my closet lacks simple items or colors.

Which fashion trend are you currently loving? I am currently loving tomboy tennis, ( I was so lucky and was able to snag a pair of the Nike iridescent blazers which I can’t wait to wear!), fringe accessories and vintage fur. I also have enjoyed the fanny pack/belt bags this summer too, (something I never thought I’d say)! I am also always a sucker for J.Crew collection pieces, I snagged the Deco feather top and can’t wait to wear it too.

What inspired you to start your blog? I wanted to start a blog because I have a very un-stylish job as an RN but have always loved fashion and dressing up. My blog encourages me to be a little fancier day to day and is also a place where I can be creative and connect with other girls that like to dress up as much as I do.

Name a couple beauty products you couldn’t live without: My Tarte Cheek and Lip Stain, my Chapstick, my Benefit Cosmetics Boi-ing Under Eye Concealer, (I never get enough sleep) for my tired eyes are my three daily must haves.

What is your best beauty trick? My best beauty trick is I often curl my hair with clips. To avoid the heat damage, I partially dry my hair after a shower, then twist pieces of my hair in small sections and secure them with hair clips. I then put on my make up, pick out my OOTD, then before I pull out the clips, I take my hair dryer and finish drying the sections still in the clips. I pull the clips and then comb it out with my fingers. My hair always feels much healthier and less dried out this way.

What is your favorite (or dream) vacation destination? If I could escape and getaway tomorrow, I would love to pack up the kids and the hubs and go anywhere but here. I love taking vacations with my husband alone, but I love family vacations more. Anywhere warm, that is. I feel like I am always freezing and so the thought of going someplace where a warm jacket is required, my enthusiasm starts to dwindle.

Tell us something not many people know about you? I have a really hard time purging my closet. I have a lot of clothes that I have yet to wear and when it comes time to purge my closet, if I haven’t worn it, it tends to linger.

Style Sessions Fashion Link Up: The Perfect Coat For Winter

Welcome to the Style Sessions Fashion Link Up! This week I’m so delighted to share one of my absolute favorite winter looks. I adore long wool coats and there is something impeccably polished about a cream colored one. The military style details and gorgeous buttons make this coat my perfect coat for winter (oh and it’s also on sale under $100, so it’s extra perfect!).

Lately, I’ve also been loving a clean neutral palette and kept with this by layering a Chicwish peplum knit sweater underneath. You probably know by know, I’ve got quite a thing for metallics – so as soon as I saw these Wallis jacquard pants, I knew I had to have them in my life!

To complete the look, I added a few of my timeless favorites… these classic black Ray-Ban aviator sunglasses from SmartBuyGlasses have barely left my face lately (they’re perfect for winter as a change from the usual gold aviator frames), this Marc Jacobs handbag is my daily go-to (and has been for two years, it’s always perfect with everything), these Michael Kors black heels are the comfiest I’ve ever owned and finally, a pop of red lipstick.

I’m delighted for you to meet our Head Stylists for this week, Brooke and Erica from Pumps & Push Ups!  These gals have fabulous style and I love gaining inspiration from their blog.

Check out this gorgeous outfit they shared recently, isn’t it a perfectly polished laid back look…

pumps2 Style Sessions Fashion Link Up: The Perfect Coat For Winter

STYLE Q&A WITH BROOKE & ERICA:

How would you describe your style? Brooke: I would describe my style as classic and polished. I tend to opt for pieces that never go out of style, such as structured blazers and pencil skirts. I’m a sucker for nearly everything J. Crew and Kate Spade can put out. Erica: I like looks that are simple and chic. I prefer to choose styles that are classic and long lasting.

Which fashion trend are you currently loving? Brooke: I am really loving leopard and oversized tops lately. The leopard because to me, it just glams up any outfit and the oversized tops because well, I have a growing baby bump that could use the extra room. Erica: I love boyfriend jeans paired with pointy toed heels.

What inspired you to start your blog? Brooke: My inspiration came from all of the fabulous blogs I read daily. I’ve been a follower of many fashion blogs for the last five years and finally started my own in 2013. I started the blog as a way to share my love of style and fashion and my professional knowledge as a personal trainer. I brought in Erica, my sister-in-law, who is an RD, with a fabulous fashion sense to amp up the nutrition side of our blog. We also have a physician and several other health professionals that regularly contribute, to enhance the health aspect even more. Since starting the blog, it has become many other things, but still sticks to the blend of both health and fashion. Erica: Actually our blog was started by Brooke but she asked me to join her because of the sound nutrition advice that I could bring to readers.

Name a couple beauty products you couldn’t live without: Brooke: MAC Pro Longwear Foundation, Paula’s Choice Resist Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum and Make-Up Forever HD PowderErica: Aveda’s Outer Peace Foaming Face Cleanser, Garnier’s Radiance Moisture Cream and Blistex Lip Medex.

What is your best beauty trick? Brooke: I wouldn’t call it a trick, but I always set my eyeliner with black eyeshadow, it smooths the line and helps the liner stay in place (I use MAC Fluidline). Erica: Curling hair – its all about doing it in layers from the inside – out.

What is your favorite (or dream) vacation destination? Brooke: I would love to one day visit Greece. Erica: Euuuurrrroooooope.

Tell us something not many people know about you? Brooke: I’m a fairly talented singer, as a kid I competed in many competitions, but as I got older, I just lost my love of performing. Erica: I rode and competed in horse shows for most of my youth (up until college), played lacrosse in high school and rugby for year on a club team in college.

Currently Covet: Gold Watches

For the last few months, I’ve been searching for the perfect new watch. I started by considering everything… gold watches, rose gold watches, silver watches, two-tone watches, tri-tone watches, leather watches… phew! And we’re not even into deciding on things like embellishments, chronograph or date display. After various visits to Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s, Saks and Macy’s (probably annoying countless sales assistants with “Could I please try this watch on? Oh and this one, this one and this one too”), I have finally narrowed it down.

If we’re connected on Instagram, you would have seen me ask your opinion yesterday… I looove that about blogging – if I can’t decide something, I can ask you! On this occasion though, the votes were actually a complete tie. Seriously.

Then I discovered two other watches that I adore and included them below. Ahh! I want them all! I also get distracted by other cute things, like this Kate Spade “it’s five o’clock somewhere” watch, how fab is the little cocktail and striped hand?!

So clearly, I need your help deciding. Let’s figure this out once and for all – which watch should I get? Please leave a comment and share your opinion, I’d really appreciate your thoughts…
