Friday Faves – The 7 Prettiest Semi Naked Drip Wedding Cakes

I’m well and truly in the midst of wedding planning right now (only 50 days to go!) and one fabulous thing to organize is of course, the cake! I’ve been scouting Pinterest for inspiration and there are some truly incredible creations… but with so many beautiful options, it gets a little confusing – I want them all! So that’s where I’d love your help… can you please help me decide? I love the effortless feel of semi naked drip wedding cakes, they are lively and fun. One of my colors is rose gold (wait til you see the invitations from Wedding Paper Diva’s – you can add metallic details to almost everything they have, I was in heaven!), so I’d love to incorporate the metallic rose gold element into the cake. I am thinking…

Option One: Semi naked drip wedding cake with white frosting sides and some metallic rose gold brushed details throughout. Then white drip over the top and finished with flowers, macaroons and other fun little treats.
Option Two: Semi naked drip wedding cake with all-white frosting sides and metallic rose gold drip over the top. Finished with flowers, macaroons and fun treats too.

Also, do you think topping the cake with soft blush pink flowers or bright pink flowers would be best? Please leave a comment and let me know your thought – I’d LOVE (and actually really need) your help! If you have any ideas on a creation, or a mix of the below, please comment and let em know.

If you’re after inspiration for your own birthday or special event… or just love looking at cakes (hello, who doesn’t?), I wanted to share some of the best semi naked drip wedding cakes I found on Pinterest, I think the addition of drips on the cake makes it even more fun too. Which wedding cake style do you like the most?

Friday Faves: Review – The Best Hair Brushes Under $10

We talk a lot of fashion around here, but you know what? No outfit is complete without a beautiful ‘do. After the handle on my last brush broke off mid-blow dry, I vowed from that day forth to always purchase quality brushes. SO my search for the best hair brushes under $10 began… I visited the “latest” and “greatest” brushes everywhere from Sephora to Nordstrom… however, the thing is, I don’t really want to spend $50 plus on a brush. Right or wrong, I’d rather buy a cute top or a new lipstick instead.

Following many long weeks of hunting down honest reviews online, I realized I wanted to replace my entire set of brushes and add a couple more to my arsenal. I’ve been using these for a while now and I looove them – so of course, it’s time for me to share them with you! Here are the hair brushes you need for a perfect blow dry…

The Best Hair Brushes Under $10

Over the years, I’ve come to realize that yes, you can get by with just one brush… but you wouldn’t want to. After having a selection of brushes in my repertoire, I’m the first to confirm that the results you can get, simply by using different brushes customized for achieving different looks, are fabulous! Here are four of the best hair brushes – ans they’re all under $10. Holy hair brush! This is the collection you need…

The Best Hair Brushes Under $10 – Number One:

I’d never used a proper comb or brush after washing my hair (I know you’re supposed to) and when I found The Wet Brush I wanted to try it. Gals, it is honestly the BEST! I can’t even think about brushing my wet hair with anything else, it makes a huge huge HUGE difference. I also use it when I curl my hair as it’s gentle and doesn’t pull my curl style out, plus before my hair got long and I use to use clip-in extensions, it was great for gently brushing them. Can you believe it’s only $8.99? You can find The Wet Brush here.

The Best Hair Brushes Under $10 – Number Two:

Ahh now it’s time for the everyday staple of the group. If you’ve never used a paddle brush, girl, you’re missing out! I upgraded to this Ion Golden Wood Paddle Brush and it’s fabulous! I chose this as it has boar bristles for adding smoothness and shine, plus the ionic bristles help to condition hair. I also love that it’s all one piece of wood and you can instantly tell this brush is great quality. It’s just $9.99 and you can get the Ion Golden Wood Paddle Brush here.

The Best Hair Brushes Under $10 – Number Three:

Want the ultimate blow dry? You need the ultimate brush of course! After the handle fell off my old round brush mid-blow dry, I vowed to always buy quality and get a fantastic new round brush – and after much searching, I found it! This Beautique Tahiti Wood Thermal Round Brush is absolutely brilliant. Featuring boar bristles for smooth and shiny hair, it’s thermal properties mean hair is quicker to dry. It’s currently on sale for just $6.99 (so you can now have a salon beautiful blow dry every day), get the Beautique Tahiti Wood Thermal Round Brush here.

The Best Hair Brushes Under $10 – Number Four:

After deciding I needed a little va-va-voom and volume injection in my hair, I recently become re-acquainted with the teasing comb. The Amped Up Tease Brush is wonderful! Featuring boar bristles for smoothness and shine, it also has a special bristle pattern and texture to reduce damage, breakage and frizz. Oh and I love the sectioning tip at the end, it comes in very handy for styling and also putting in extensions. You can get the Amped Up Tease Brush here for just $4.29.

Tell me girls, do you currently have a selection of brushes in your repertoire? What’s your holy-grail brush?

Friday Faves – #GirlBoss Tips To Boost Your Success in 2017

I personally think January is an amazing month, it’s a fresh start and brings so much excitement and anticipation for the year ahead. I always like to take some time at the end of December to dream, plan, get inspired and set goals – I really believe it’s a huge key to achieving success (professionally and personally).

There are a few things every Girl Boss needs to kick goals and today, I wanted to share a few essentials to boost your success in 2017 and make the next year your best EVER!

Whatever you dream of, the most important thing is to start. It’s as easy and as hard as that… just start! Do one thing over the next day that will lead you closer to where you want to be this time next year. Then, do one thing the next day… just take one step at a time. Stay focused, be positive, take action and when you put the work in, have the right strategy and surround yourself with like-minded people who lift you up and genuinely encourage you, it’s amazing what you’ll achieve!

SHE Society blog design how to make money blogging how to start a blog blogging course mentor business consulting

Be excited and willing to invest in yourself. If you want your business to flourish, whether it is a product or service, it is essential to invest. Think about where you want to be a year from now… really take a moment to close your eyes and picture it. What does life look like?  What are you doing? Importantly, what does it feel like? One of the greatest things you can do is map your path to success.

What do you need to do to be where you want to be this time next year? Do you need to up-skill with a course? Investing in your own education and increasing your knowledge is one of the best things anyone can do to empower themselves. Or perhaps you need to hire someone to help turn your vision into reality? Or spend a little money on marketing and advertising? When you’re in business yourself, there’s often a million reasons you can think of not to spend money and at times can over-think everything and end up talking yourself out of things. After all, when it’s your own money, it’s crucial your investment achieves results… and sometimes there’s no certain guarantee up front. I can totally relate to this, I use to do everything myself (perhaps that’s also part of my perfectionist nature and being somewhat of a control-freak), however what I’ve learned is sometimes you just have to take a leap and be willing to invest in yourself and your business. The old adage, “you have to spend money to make money” is true (naturally it has to be done in a strategically to maximize your return on investment).

I also truly believe in the power of positive thought and the influence your environment has on your mental state. Create vision boards and put it somewhere you look every day, they are incredibly motivational. Surrounding yourself with beautiful, inspiring and uplifting things is key to maintaining your passion, drive and enthusiasm. Create a space you’re excited to be in, after all… as your business grows, you’re going to be spending a lot of time there!

I’d love to know, what is one #GirlBoss goal you have for 2017? Personally, mine is to continue developing the community and content here at Style Elixir – particularly video content. Yay! I also look forward to continuing my work with fellow bloggers, I absolutely LOVE the energy, passion, strategy and results I see for all the participants who take my Professional Blogging Course or personal consulting sessions. It gives me such joy and sense of fulfillment to share everything behind what I’ve done to grow my blog into a business and help others be able to move into full time blogging too.

Finally, I recently started offering blog design and want to continue to grow this service. I have been involved in some significant website developments and creative direction, but I really just want to work with fellow bloggers to help set them up with everything they need to blog successfully. It’s a niche I’m super passionate about, so the blog design work I’ve been doing has been such a brilliant process! Those are a few high level goals of mine, I’m excited to hear what yours are – please leave a comment below and share!

Last Minute Christmas Gift Ideas – Aveda Makeup Review

It’s only two sleeps until Christmas! I’m currently trying to finish up the last few gifts for my Christmas shopping and Chris, well… we are going tonight to basically do all his Christmas shopping (men, am I right?!).  I am sure we’re not alone, so wanted to share a few gorgeous last minute Christmas gift ideas. I have always been a huge fan of Aveda and love their products, they’re just all about simple, effective, natural products that genuinely do what they say. I wanted to share an Aveda makeup review with you today, specifically about products in the gorgeous new Fōklôr collection.

From makeup and skincare, to beautiful Chakra Balancing Body Mists harnessing the power of Ayurveda, there’s a perfect present for everyone. Plus, they’re already beautifully wrapped – the boxes and styling really make you feel like you’re giving (and receiving) something special. I hope you enjoy seeing my top picks and an Aveda makeup review of their new Fōklôr collection (spoiler alert, it’s fabulous!).

Aveda makeup review – it is honestly brilliant! The colors are so pigmented and rich, they last and apply to beautifully. These are all from the new Fōklôr collection
Nouish-Mint Lipstick in Carnelian and Sheer Primrose. This lipstick has a fresh minty scent, such a fabulous idea! They are moisturizing color full, with naturally derived ingredients and a the mint aroma-flavor is created with certified organic mint.
Petal Essence Eye Color (clockwise from top); Balsam (a cool, deep evergreen), Chia (a dark greyish purple), Rose Quartz (a beautiful pink) and Dusted Sage (a light misty green).
Nourish-Mint Rehydrating Lip Glaze in Pink Lupine is such a pretty every day gloss and great to layer over lipstick too. It has a fresh minty scent also.

Nourish-Mint Lip Shine in Chuparosa (a sheer orange red color), it is infused with certified organic mint and has a fresh minty scent!
Petal Essence Eye Definer in Slate Shimmer (rich grey with a touch of metallic sparkle) and Gypsum Gold (a light sparkling champagne color). Love love love the gold! It’s so pretty for adding a touch of shimmer and highlight the inner eye – it’s a trick makeup artists use to make your eyes seem bigger and brighter.
Nourish-Mint Lip Liner in Tarragona (a deep wine color, perfect for winter), it is richly pigmented and lasts for such a long time.

Friday Faves – The Best Beach Fragrances

Whether you’re escaping winter over the holidays for warm and sunny tropical beaches, or dreaming that you were, every girl needs a gorgeous beach fragrance that evokes all the good feels of summer. With just a spray, you’re instantly transported to a place of utter bliss… the sand between your toes, salty sea air, golden warm summer skin, soft coconut scent of sunscreen and the faint hint of driftwood in air.

Ever since spraying Beach Walk from the Replica collection by Maison Margiela during a trip to Nordstrom (and then compulsively visiting each day for two weeks to continue ‘sampling’ the scent), I was hooked. If you were ever to ‘blind’ buy a scent, I would have no hesitation in say yes, do it! This one is absolutely gorgeous.

I’ve since been researching and testing other beach inspired perfumes and salty fragrances. I wanted to find the perfect mix of salty, coconut, sandy warmth that instantly transports you to all those amazing days spent at the beach. I think scent is such a powerful tool for evoking memories and moments, so finding the most beautiful beach perfume has been a mission of mine. I wasn’t looking for scents that tried to be like the beach, I wanted to find scents that are the beach.

After much research, sampling trips and stalking online fragrance forums, here are the very best beach fragrances, with natural (and non-chemical) elements to give you the most authentic, natural and powerful beach experience from wherever you may be! For more details, just click the photo of the perfume below, or visit the links…

I would really LOVE to know if you have any beach perfume recommendations? Is there a salty, coconut, sandy, ocean air scent that you love? Please share in the comments below, I will definitely check it out.

The Best Beach Fragrances

The Best Beach Fragrances:
1.     Beach Walk Eau de Toilette from the Replica collection by Maison Margiela
2.     Beach by Bobbi Brown Eau de Parfum
3.  Amongst the Waves Eau de Parfum from Olivine Atelier (the reviews on this boutique Etsy store are incredible, I love supporting small businesses). For International friends, the concentrated perfume oil version can be shipped worldwide, yay! As it’s pure fragrance, it will last forever – a little goes a long way.

Friday Faves – Seriously Gorgeous Christmas Gifts Under $60

With all the sales over the past week, I’ve managed to get quite a lot of shopping for Christmas gifts done – and couldn’t be more thrilled. It’s the best feeling! It just makes you feel like you’ve really got your ish together… kind of like when you eat a salad and think you’re literally the most healthy being to ever walk the earth.

If you’re hunting for Christmas presents, I’ve rounded up some of the best Christmas gifts under $60. I’d love them all myself, so a few will probably end up as little ‘gifts to self’ under the tree – but there’s nothing wrong with that, is there? For example, I am uhbsessed with my rose gold Lumee iPhone Case. I think it’s the most life changing invention… so basically, every one I know is likely to get one in their stocking this year. I only just recently got one… and am seriously kicking myself for not doing it sooner!

What are your weekend plans? I’m currently writing this from a cruise ship. Quite honestly, I don’t think there’s a better place to work from. It’s my birthday tomorrow, yay! So my family organised a big cruise to celebrate. I went on a cruise to Papua New Guinea for my birthday last year and casually (but not so casually) mentioned I would love to do a cruise every year for my birthday. So far so good! I’m off to find myself a margarita and a sun bed, I hope you all enjoy a beautiful weekend too!

Friday Faves: Gorgeous Christmas Gift Guide – Under $125

It finally hit me this week, December isn’t far away at all… which means, two weeks tomorrow (on December 3), I am turning 32! Yikes! I truly don’t feel that age… I swear I’m still 26. Do you ever feel the same? I love asking people this… if you were asked your age, what’s the number your head goes to instinctively? I feel like I’ll always think 26. If you’ve been here with me for a few years (thank you!), you may remember a birthday letter to myself that I wrote and published three years ago, on the eve of my 29th birthday. I recently read back through it and am so glad I took the time to write it all down. I hope you may enjoy reading it too, it’s a little piece of what’s in my heart and shares my lessons, hopes, fears, dreams and gratitude.

So with December almost here… it means Christmas isn’t far away… only five and a half weeks! I started my Christmas shopping this week,, you’ll find my gorgeous Christmas Gift Guide ideas below. In past years I’ve been so busy and left shopping to the last minute, then I stress out and have to pay for express shipping. It’s so much better just ordering gifts online now and having them arrive in plenty of time! I do all my Christmas shopping online now, it’s far easier than vising stores – especially when you’re shopping for lots of different people!

christmas-presents-under-tree-christmas-gift-guide-com

I am so obsessed with Replica Perfume by Maison Margiela, they’re beautiful fragrances specially designed to recreate a moment and memory.  I picked up my first bottle in New York recently and quickly added to my collection with some others. They’re really unique as each scent has been specially created to replicate a place and evoke fond memories, I feel scents are so powerful in transporting you places. The three I have (so far) are Beach Walk, the provence and period is Calvi 1972… Funfair Evening, Santa Monica 1994… and By The Fireplace, Chamonix 1971. They truly are exactly as the scent describes – Beach Walk just makes me feel like I’m on summer holidays with warm breezes, salty air and sweet coconuts, Funfair Evening really takes me to the gorgeous days I’ve spent in Santa Monica and By The Fireplace is absolutely divine – it’s a rich scent that just feels like you’re sitting in a luxe leather chair by the fireplace in France. Perfect for winter! There’s nothing else like them, I am just so in love with the range and really wanted to share them with you!

I’d love to hear from you, do you do your Christmas shopping online? I’ve been wondering if more and more people have gone online instead of stores, it’s interesting how things change. Leave a comment and let me know where you’re from and how you plan to do your shopping, I’d love to hear about it! Also, I’ve been wondering how much people generally spend on Christmas gifts… what price range do you like to stick to when hunting for gifts? Is it under $50? Under $100? Over $100? I generally splurge on my immediate family (Chris, my mum and dad, my sister Georgia), as I just love getting them special things they’ll love, then for others I try to keep it around $50.
