Welcome to Style Sessions! One of the biggest questions I’m asked in emails is about how to mix prints, so today I’d love to share my top four tips with you (see details below). I chose some of my favorite prints as an example – polka dots and leopard! My other go-to print is stripes, it’s a classic that works well with polka dots and will never go out of style.

How To Mix Prints:

1.  Select a one print as the focus, then add a secondary more subtle print. A great way to do this is mixing shoes and tops. Separate the patterns with a neutral pair of jeans, shorts or a skirt. This is a great way to start your print mixing journey in a more classic, subtle way.

2.  Choose prints in the same color family. This makes the whole look aesthetically pleasing, well put-together and easy on the eye. For example, mix blue and white stripes with blue and white polka dots. Keep warm tones with other warm hues, the same applies for cool colors.

3.  Scale prints and mix small with large. A great tip is to mix larger prints with smaller prints in the same print family. Two large, dominant prints can be overwhelming, so the contrast  of large and small creates interest while keeping it perfectly polished.

4.  Mix textures. This is such a simple and easy way to wear multiple prints! Look for leather, silk, wool or if it’s shoes, pony hair is always a chic choice.
