They’re probably the one thing I wear most, but equally the hardest to buy! Jeans… I love them, but do I love shopping for them? Umm, no. One of the biggest hurdles is discovering which style and shape works best for your individual body type. I often see my favorite celebs wearing gorgeous jeans and think “I’ve got to have them!”, but end up disappointed to find they aren’t quite right for me. It’s all about learning what works for you and the latest spray-on skinny may not be the best option.

So after years of my own trial and error, combined with a little research, I’ve put together a short guide for finding the perfect jeans to suit your genes!

Whether you’re tall or short, slim and skinny leg designs will look fab! For an on-trend style, opt for a cut that finishes at your ankle. Avoid boyfriend jeans or anything too baggy, it will overwhelm your petite frame.

Look for straight leg styles in a mid-rise. Avoid jeans with flared bottoms and remember, darker hues can be most flattering.

Try a boot cut style, this creates great balance and a feminine silhouette. Avoid jeans that have particularly small pockets on the rear, these can accentuate areas you may prefer not to.

FIT TIP… always pay attention to the pocket placement! It’s amazing how little things can make the biggest difference. I’ve learned if you want to create a perky, slimmer rear, it’s all in the pockets! Look for back positioning that’s very centred on each leg – if pockets are too far apart or too close together, it will make your rear appear wider. The same applies if the pockets are too high or too low, it will make your rear look a lot less perky that it could.

CARE TIP… hate it when your dark jeans fade in the wash? Me too. Next time, wash them in cold water, turned inside-out and add a capful of vinegar with your usual washing powder.

I personally love a tailored, slim fit that finishes at my ankle – and denim you can actually move (and breath) in! I went through a jean hoarding stage and now own so many pairs… everything from J Brand, True Religion, Siwy, Paige Denim, Sass & Bide, 7 For All Mankind. But my favorite pairs are actually from a brand called Country Road. They fit so well and the denim is super comfortable, basically they’re all I wear. Plus, they have super fab colors and finishes (like my leopard jeans, bright coral jeans and leather look coated denim).

What’s your favorite style or brand of jeans?
