My Take – Military Chic

It seems like once again a military feel is taking over fashion. I’m sure I remember this from seasons gone by – and it’s back with a vengeance! I’d probably describe my style as generally quite feminine, so for me this is one of those trends I don’t follow implicitly. It just wouldn’t be true and I’d probably feel like I was pretending – which is why I don’t believe one should religiously follow everything in the fashion world.

I believe it’s so important to learn and develop your own sense of style, then you can incorporate trend elements or create your own take on them. So for me… military chic means a polished olive green blouse, black tailored shorts and gold accessories. Oh, and Pony Hair Polka Dot Heels – these just arrived and I am literally so obsessed.  For the most part, I’m keeping with the army trend color palette, but have remained true to the aesthetic I feel comfortable in…

Meet Our Head Stylist…

This week I’m excited to introduce you to Meagan from Because of Jackie!

I’ve adored Meagan since we first met in the blogging world last year – she’s so fabulous! Friendly, down to earth, authentic and fun are just some ways I’d describe her. As you can see below, Meagan also has a brilliant sense of style that is real, relatable and gorgeous. Plus, I love her knack for changing up a look simply by adding different shoes and handbags…

What is your most adored wardrobe piece:  This is hard, because I just did a HUGE closet purge and kinda love everything I have in there right now. My go to piece that seems to work right now with everything are my distressed boyfriend jeans. I can wear them with sandals and a studded tee during the day, or heels and a fancier top at night.

Describe your style in three words:  Three words that work for me season after season (and don’t relate at all!) are Boho (think flowing maxi dresses and flower headbands), Edgy (I love anything with studs, spikes or skulls) and Classic (can you really go wrong with jeans and a crisp white tee shirt?).

Your best piece of fashion advice:  This took me so long to really get and live by, but “dress in a way that makes YOU happy”.  I dress for my and what makes me feel good on any given day. I don’t worry about what my husband, friends or family think! It feels good to be comfortable enough with myself and dress for me, it really makes a difference.

Tell us, what’s been your biggest fashion faux pas: Ooooh, I have had a lot of these! Overalls (black corduroy?) in high school, worn with a scrunchie and sneakers; heavy white eyeliner and flipped our hair in college; tight grey skinny jeans a a too short top (not that long ago…); really, there are too many to count! I even cringe looking back on my blog from a year ago. I am still learning about what makes me look my best and make mistakes. A lot!

Where are your favorite places to shop:  I love Target for the price point and the options, Forever21 for the accessories, H&M for some edgier pieces and Zara for trendier looks. I love to shop! It is a passion of mine and I spend a lot of time online seeing what is out there, as well as looking at blogs for inspiration.
