I have been so excited to create this very special post for you, I would love to invite you to share our wedding day video. It was truly the most magical day and we’re sure many of our family and friends would agree, it was a long time coming…

It was six years ago, on April 8 2011, when Chris and I first met on a Friday night after work through friends at a restaurant and bar on the water in our hometown of Brisbane, Australia. A week later, we went for a Sunday lunch date at a beautiful restaurant overlooking the river and as they say, the rest is history.

One of our greatest shared loves (apart from our dog, Ollie), is travel and living in different cities around the world. Throughout our time together, as many couples do, we’ve explored the world and enjoyed skiing in Queenstown, New Zealand, adventuring across Vietnam, snorkeling in New Caledonia, sipping cava in Fiji, soaking in the sights of New York from Top of the Rock, driving the coast of California from San Diego to San Francisco and wandering through winter while staying at the stunning Montage resort in Deer Valley, Utah.

We’ve shared the highest of highs and some lows too. That’s real life and the sum of those experiences brought us to this day. We are eternally grateful for the love and support of our friends, family and the amazing community of friends I’ve met through Style Elixir, it means the world to us and we’re thrilled to celebrate and embark on this next chapter with you all.

It’s true what they say, your wedding day goes by so quickly. I was determined to stay in the moment and soak everything in as much as possible, however all the excitement and nerves, combined with the realization that this is the day you’ve dreamed of for so long… this is it… it can be overwhelming (in the most wonderful way).

One of the best decisions I made (aside from choosing the groom, of course!) was having a wedding day video. It was always something I wanted, there is nothing like video to capture feelings, emotions and most importantly, people. I know that 40 years from now, I’ll be able to look back on our wedding day and see, hear and feel my father walking me down the aisle, my mother hugging and giving me a rose, my new husband the instant we crossed over the threshold into this new chapter of life together. It’s so special watching my parents’ wedding day video, hearing their speeches, seeing my grandparents and getting a glimpse into a time before me. So to say a wedding video was everything to me, is an understatement. I did TONS of research and watched countless videos of weddings online, but I knew when I saw the work of True North Films (and cried during wedding videos of couple’s I’d never even met!), they were the videographer’s for us.

We were all so excited for the arrival of the wedding day video, which was delivered in a box with pretty wooden USB’s inside. Oh the anticipation as I plugged the USB in! Within ten seconds, there were tears – tears of the best kind! Happy tears, tears brought on by the emotion emanating from the screen and sheer joy that we have this incredible video that captures everything life is about and most significantly, those people who mean the world to us.

So without further ado, I hope you enjoy sharing one of the most special days of our life…

Our wedding day video by the very talented team at True North Films

I also wanted to give a special mention to True North Films, I really believe in sharing talent and advocating those who truly go above and beyond. Ben O’Sullivan (who owns True North Films) and his team were impeccable throughout the whole process. From very thorough briefings before the wedding day, which gave me such confidence that they were one element I didn’t need to worry about (I just knew it was all ok, they’ve got this), to their warm, relaxed and professional disposition as they arrived on the morning of our wedding. The team fit in beautifully with our family and friends, and by the end of the day when I hugged Ben goodbye, I knew we’d made a new friend.

Something I really want to share, which is what  truly impressed me, is how effortlessly they moved throughout the day. When I watched the video footage, I was absolutely amazed at all the little moments they captured, from glances and smiles between people, a touch on the arm or wiping a tear. The team was obviously everywhere, but on the day, we never felt like there were camera’s on us. There is magic in what they do – it seems effortless, but it is most certainly not without effort. I have such respect for the heart, soul, care and enthusiasm they put into creating something that will be treasured for a lifetime. A wedding video is about much more than just filming a room, how the videographer sees people and captures the human side of the day is what sets them apart.

Of course, a wedding day video is definitely an investment. But I can’t even imagine not having this special memory of the day – it blows photography out of the water! The overview video of our wedding day is seven minutes – a perfect length to view anytime you want to travel back to the day. We also got a full edited video of the ceremony and another full edited video of the reception with speeches and dancing. We received three USB’s with all the footage, which made a lovely ‘thank you’ gift for both our parents.

I will be sharing all the gorgeous details of our wedding this week, plus tips, help and recommendations for other brides-to-be… including the stunning ceremony and reception styling by WOW Weddings, gorgeous invitations and on the day stationery by Wedding Paper Diva’s, our incredible cake by Petite Crumb, beautiful wedding rings from Blue Nile, pretty rose petals from Simply Rose Petals for our fabulous petal toss (it was so much fun!), my ethereal cathedral veil by Madame Tulle, the prettiest bridal party robes from Papinelle, hair styling by the ahhhmazing Holly Stewart and makeup from the oh so talented Kate Dove. I can’t wait to take you behind the scenes and talk all things wedding!
